Middle Ages, Silesia, Piast dynastyAbstract
From his first foreign expedition, combined with the pilgrimage to the Holy Land, Louis II, the ruler of Brzeg and Legnica, conducted a fairly extravagant financial policy. His numerous foreign trips and lavish lifestyle at the court of King Sigismund of Luxembourg consumed a huge amount of money. Despite his best efforts, Louis II definitely cannot be regarded as an ideal of virtues. The debts he owed to the Silesian princes, representatives of the Church and his subjects led the territories of the former Duchy of Brzeg-Legnica, which had been quite prosperous under the reign of his grandfather Louis I, to bankruptcy.
