The work of the German paediatrician Josef Ströder in occupied Krakow

(1942–1944)

Abstract

Josef Ströder (1912–1993) was a doctor by vocation, an excellent paediatrician, a man of great knowledge and a humanist. From 1942 to 1944, he was the commissary administrator of the university children’s clinic in Krakow and the children’s hospitals in that city. Ströder’s attitude, an honest man and doctor, was crowned with success in saving hundreds of children from death. He was well remembered by his Polish colleagues and patients. After the war, he successfully continued his medical and scientific activities in Würzburg.
