The aim of the article is to depict the experiences of the freedom deprivation of the Czech journalist, dissident and civil rights activist Jiří Lederer (1922–1983), who had been associated with the socialist movement since his early years. During World War II, he was a forced labourer. Under Stalinism, he worked as a simple worker. In 1970, 1972 and 1977–1980 he suffered persecutions: he was a political prisoner, then emigrated to the Federal Republic of Germany.
