The Polish diplomatic service considered the possible unificatio of Austria and Germany as a threat to Polish national security. However, the opinions of Polish diplomats on ‘Anschluss’ were increasingly unclear, and some of them considered that it could also bring benefits for the Polish state. The first sign of changes in Polish policy was the stance on the customs union between Austria and Germany.
