This article, unfinished by the author, examines the environmental conditions in Poland during the formation of the state. It discusses the effects of climate change and human activity on the landscape from the post-glacial period to the 10th century, together with various methods for reconstructing these conditions, including geological and palynological analyses, as well as the use of written and cartographic sources. It highlights the importance of an interdisciplinary approach that merges the natural sciences with the humanities to gain a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between humans and the environment.
