Artykuł jest analizą wpływu odmiennych warunków geograficznych, społecznych i ekonomicznych Afryki Wschodniej na model osadnictwa Omańczyków w latach 1806–1856. Wskazuje, że doszło w nim do istotnych zmian, obejmujących pojawienie się nowych form osadnictwa, nowego materiału budowlanego czy przyjęcie rozwiązań praktykowanych przez kultury afrykańskie. Z drugiej strony bardzo wiele ważnych elementów, jak architektura i plemienna struktura osadnictwa, przeniesionych zostało na grunt Afryki Wschodniej.
