Abstract

The antependium from the church of St Clement is a remnant of the former furnishings of Głogów’s sacral interiors. The object survived the wartime and postwar destruction.  The interiors of Głogów churches before the Second World War were considered very
rich. During the defence of Festung Glogau, most of them were destroyed. Among the archival sources, there are only two surviving photographs showing the antependium: from the years before 1945 and from the 1950s. The conducted research focused on the chemical composition of primers and decorative layers. Research results allowed to address
the issue of preciousness of materials that were used in original and secondary layers. The research enabled the identification of the technological and chronological stages of the creation of the monument.

Weronika Korycka, Museum of Archeology and History in Głogów

Weronika Korycka, graduate of the Conservation and Restoration of Painting and Polychrome Sculpture at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, diploma no. . Since 2018, a museum employee at the Conservation Workshop of the Archaeological and Numismatic Center, a branch of the Archaeological and Historical Museum in Głogów. She specializes in the conservation of archaeological monuments, especially metal objects. She performs conservation of monuments from the museum's own collections and from external orders.
