Abstract

The National Archives in Kraków holds a book of the Lithuanian Assessor's Court from 1589 to 1595, with the reference number 29/6370/1.2/483. Its discovery was made by Henryk Lulewicz.  The documents the book contains show the course of trials in the assessor's courts. Since the Crown books of this court were burned by the German occupiers after the fall of the Warsaw Uprising, this is a very important source not only for the case of Lithuania but also for the Crown. Several royal decrees of Sigismund III entered in this book have been analyzed. They show the king's highly balanced approach to the issue of religious liberties at the beginning of his reign.
