SOPHIE POSTOLSKA — FORGOTTEN „RODIN’S POLISH WOMAN”
This article is dedicated to Sophie Postolska—a Polish sculptress, who was one of the few Polish artists recognized as Auguste Rodin’s pupils. It is an attempt to fill the up rich glossary of Polish people in France. The article brings up the most important and hard to determine facts from life of the long forgotten artist, like her studies in Académie de Paris and Académie Julian, professional relation with Antoine Bourdelle, frequent travels and affiliation with the artistic circles of Cracow and Zakopane. The letters held in Musée Rodin and private archive of artist’s family are a valuable source of knowledge. The correspondence forms a journal illustrated with postcards from Poland, which allows to determine the extent of the private relations between master and apprentice. The only remaining evidence of the artistic activity of Postolska is a sculpture bearing her signature held in Musée Rodin in Paris.Pobrania
