Alicja Halicka, one of the most important Polish-born female painters of the 20th century, was a member of the French Avant-garde Movement. Along with her husband, the cubist painter Louis Marcoussis, Halicka was strongly influenced by modern poetry. In her art and particularly in landscapes she combines some fragments of the visual world with dreams, poetry and mythology. She observes towns and cities through their history and their monuments and sculptures.
