Pious letters by Catherine d’Amboise – epistolographic, prayer and poetic forms in the manuscript and in the first edition

The Author presents an analysis of the work by Catherine d’Amboise (1482–1550) in its first edition: Les dévotes epistres (1861), taking into account the changes made by the edition’s author Jean-Jacques Bourassé (1813–1872) in relation to the manuscript. A description is presented of the reasons and consequences of the decision to separate a number of units from the whole body of work and giving them separate titles. The Author proves that the key element which determines the message of the volume is the l’envoi, used by Bourassé not only in the original context of the royal chant, but also as a synonym for a letter or its part.
