Pry, Samantha Gorman, Danny Cannizzaro, modern ways of reading, reading as a ride, jumpy readingAbstract
The main aim of the article is to present a close reading of many-awards-winning Pry (2014) by Samantha Gorman and Danny Cannizzaro (the duo that is called Tender Claws). The article describes the specific way of reading of this unique work (the one that uses many meaningful gestures and crosses the traditional images of reading) and shows how the Pry’s form is linked to the whole story. The work is analyzed in context of some concepts about modern ways of reading, as Janez Strehovec’s idea of “reading as a ride”, the one linked with so-called “jumpy reading” (this aspect of Strehovec’s theory is discussed by Przybyszewska). In the largest perspective the work is seen as a stimuli to ask a question about the literary critique condition in the times of literature that Pry forms part of.
