The Author’s aim is to compare the existing, classic examples of texts designed to obtain maximum readability (Frutiger and Verdana) and to define the set of features which allow to generate a universally readable pattern. The Author also describes the physical and mental factors which influence the reception of textually recorded information and the designing instruments in projects of alphabets created for the vision-impaired – a group of recipients which is very large, at the same time consisting of numerous subgroups with different requirements concerning the decoding of signs. In order to effectively design readability, one should design a system which would enable users to manipulate with writing parameters.
