On structuralism in action: TEI and scholarly digital edition from the perspective of editorial practice

The starting point of the article is a reflection on the lack of texts attempting a theory of digital edition in Polish and the state of knowledge in this matter in the Polish scholarly editing community. The essential part of the text consists of prolegomena necessary for the reflection on the theory of this kind, written from the point of view of a practitioner of scholarly digital editing, familiar with foreign discussions on digital editing and the resulting practical realizations. One of the threads is the presentation of theoretical-literary reflection as one of the layers of reflection on scholarly digital editing, shown as a “case study” on the basis of the interpretability of the TEI marking standard (Text Encoding Initiative) as “structuralism in practice”.
