THE PEREGRINATION OF THE ICON OF OUR LADY OF THE PERPETUAL SUCCOUR IN THE DIOCESE OF PELPLIN IN 2024 IN THE CONTEXT OF UTILISING THE NEW MEDIA POTENTIAL

Abstract

In 2024 the Diocese of Pelplin was celebrating the pilgrimage of the Icon of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour, as a preparation for the Holy Year 2025. The event was aimed at reviving the Christian life and strengthening the faith. The new media played a key role in its organisation. Websites and social media facilitated the publication of invitations, schedules and instructions and enabled the participants to sign up to receive the icon. Furthermore, they supported the formative activities and the evangelisation when engaging the parishioners and promoting the community interaction. Thanks to the extensive use of the digital media the informationreached a larger number of people, thus encouraging them to participate enthusiastically. The faithful were also able to share their testimonies and reflections, further bolstering the spiritual community. This initiative demonstrated how the modern technologies can serve evangelisation and invigorate religious life.
