THE TRUTH IN THE SERVICE OF GOODNESS. THE CASE OF RAHAB AND THE SPIES (JOSH 2:12–14)

The article presents various scientific research done to interpret Rahab’s request for a “sign of truth” in Jos 2:12–14. The research consists of a literary, semantic and theological analysis of the biblical text in its synchronic and diachronic perspectives. The truth referred to in Josh 2:12–14 is the truth about YHWH revealed to and experienced by the Israelites, and known by Rahab. The sign of belief in it and acceptance of it is to show goodness. Rahab showed such goodness to the Israelite spies, and she asked the spies for such goodness for herself and her family.
