ECUMENICAL THEOLOGY AS SEEN BY KAZIMIERZ HOFFMANN (1930–1975)

Abstract

The paper aims to systematise and reconstruct the ecumenical themes present in K. Hoffman’s writings, which form the ecumenical theology practised by the author. The first part presents the Catholic perspective of K. Hoffmann’s ecumenical theology. The second part is dedicated to Christian churches and communities and the perspective of dialogue. In the third part, the author presents the views of this Warsaw scholar on Luther and attempts to revise his theology and the principles of the Reformation. The conclusions from the analyses are as follows. K. Hoffmann reveals the essence of Catholic ecumenical theology, the dialogue of the Catholic Church with other Christian churches and communities, and the tasks that arise from ecumenism. He does so on the basis of the teachings of the Council and the documents of the Church Magisterium. The author deals with non-Catholic churches and communities, and in his presentation, he points to the originality of thought and highlights the characteristic features and main features of theology. Based on the literature on the subject, he undertakes a revision of Martin Luther’s views and the principles of Reformation.
