Care and therapeutic activities for a child with bronchial asthma during exacerbation of the disease

Abstract

Introduction. Bronchial asthma is a chronic, and the most common respiratory disease in children. Disease symptoms are a problem in the daily functioning of the patient, and the treatment process is not easy and involves the systematic use of drugs. Disease exacerbation occurs when asthma is not monitored properly. An exacerbation worsens symptoms and is life-threatening.

The aim. This work is aimed to analyze the tasks of a nurse in the care of bronchial asthma based on a case-by-case study.

Case study. The patient was a 5-year-old boy who had been treated for bronchial asthma for 3 years. The disease worsened and she was admitted to the ward for diagnosis. The patient has a confirmed allergy, he had contact with allergens before hospitalization. From the history and analysis of knowledge that the mother used the wrong inhalation techniques and did not have adequate information about the disease. The patient is tearful and anxious, his mood is caused by hospitalization. The boy is knowledgeable about the place, time and situation in which he is local. The boy is confident in the medical staff.

Conclusions. The patient's exacerbation was caused by improper asthma control and inadequate parental knowledge of the disease. The education of parents and the patient was carried out, materials on the disease were provided, thanks to which the parents' knowledge was completed. Symptoms of disease exacerbation, such as dyspnea and cough after nursing interventions, disappeared. Anxiety, restlessness and sleep disturbances have been minimized. The patient requires further observation and control in the clinic. Medicines should be taken regularly, as prescribed by a doctor.
