The question of the Pomeranian population being forced into the Wehrmacht is still valid for inhabitants of Pomerania. Pomeranians felt the effects of the recruitment many years after WWII finished. the means which allowed the Germans to recruit Poles into the armed forces was the German People’s List (Deutsche Volkslite – DVL). It is estimated that by January 1944 about 725,000 Poles were
forced to join the 3rd group of the Volkslist. Many of them tried to avoid fighting for the German army. they often deserted. there were also people who were involved in resistance activities prior to their service in the Wehrmacht, which they continued having been incorporated into the enemy’s army.
