Polish women from Pomerania among the „educational” prisoners of the
Arbeitserziehungslager Stutthof. Due to the introduction of forced labour by the German occupying forces, the failure to register with the German employment office (Arbeitsamt) and to start work within the specified period was punishable by detention and imprisonment for the so-called „education” in a labour education camp (Arbeitserziehungslager Stutthof) for a period of two to six or more weeks. Among young prisoners of AEL Stutthof there were women from all over Gdańsk Pomerania, employed in the fields, in smaller production plants or as domestic servants. The release from the camp did not entail their returning home, but being referred to the labor office again.
