The text focuses on the female experience of the Second World War, with an emphasis on the roles played by mothers. Starting from the opinion of Miron Białoszewski, who argued that the war was a time of return to matriarchy, the author shows selected episodes from the history of Warsaw in 1939–1945, in which the influence of mothers on the functioning of society was noticeable. He emphasizes their role in organizing everyday life, both in September 1939 and during the Warsaw Uprising. He also highlights the role of mothers in the creation of the Polish Underground State.
