The „Disappearing Hitchhiker” in a comparative perspective. Legend plot analysis

The article presents variants of the urban legend called „Vanishing Hichhiker” from different parts of the world. In the introduction, the author outlines the context of research onthis topic – he discusses the beginnings of scientific reflection, presents the most important researchers and their works related to this narrative. Article shows that in individual realizations, recorded in culturally and socially diverse areas, the same universal motifs are visible, allowing them to be assigned to one plot pattern. The work presents narratives collected by
researchers from the United States, Poland and even the Far East (South Korea).
