pedunculate oak Quercus robur, red oak Quercus rubra, invasive species, powdery mildew, Qu- ercus genusAbstract
The article is dedicated to ecological, cultural, and economic significance of oaks. These trees are an important component of forest ecosystems, providing food and habitats for many animal species. Oak forests are valuable due to their unique biodiversity and role in maintaining ecological balance. The article addresses issues related to two species: the pedunculate oak Quercus robur, increasingly affected by fungal pathogens such as powdery mildewErysiphe alphitoides, and the introduced red oak Quercus rubra, whose spread may threaten native species. These problems are currently being monitored and intensively studied.
Oaks played a significant role in many areas of human activity, enriching cultural and civilizational heritage – from land and naval construction, through various crafts, to medicinal applications. As symbols of strength, nobility, and longevity, they occupy a special place in culture and art. The diversity of bioactive compounds found in oak-derived raw materials indicates their potential use in medicinal preparations, cosmetics, dietary supplements, and functional foods.
