The aim of the article is to analyze changes in the sense of social distance to nations and cultural
identity in Ukrainian society after the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian War in 2014. Selected
representative surveys were carried out, surveys carried out by leading Ukrainian public opinion
research centers as well as scientific and journalistic studies. The background to the discussion was
comments on the Russian stereotype of a Ukrainian who was internalized by a part of the Ukrainian
society and constitutes a barrier in the process of national emancipation of Ukrainians.
