The main field of interpretation is the ethics of politics, and the main subject of
research is monarchist political thought presented by a Spanish author. The text consists of
four main elements: a) the primacy of ethics over politics; b) stoic philosophy as a practical
philosophy; c) monarch deontology; d) the dial metaphor. As part of the conclusions, in
addition to the recapitulation of the threads contained in the work, the significance of the
discussed item in the light of the principles of Spanish traditionalism was presented.
2021-12-22T00:00:00+01:00 Prawa autorskie (c) 2021 Łukasz Perlikowski Jean Bodin i monarchia „Polityków” 2021-12-22T17:26:41+01:00 Adam Wielomski
The aim of this text is not the next presentation of idea of sovereignty of Jean Bodin. This
political concept has a great multilanguage bibliography. It’s very characteristic that the
idea of Bodin’s monarchy is today presented as an abstract theory of modern state, as the
model for catholic Bourbonic monarchy in modern France. It’s not true. This political idea
is the result of the religious war in France between Catholics et Huguenots. The main idea of
Bodin is to present the political program of party of “Politiques” of prime minister Michel de
l’Hospital. It’s the mixture of religious indifferentism, kind of pre-liberalism, and absolutist
form of power as a guarantee of political order. The author of this text present Jean Bodin
in this political context, as a greater political thinker of “Politiques” party
2021-12-22T00:00:00+01:00 Prawa autorskie (c) 2021 Adam Wielomski Jezuicka myśl polityczna XVI–XVII wieku wobec problemu monarchii (Francisco Suárez i Roberto Bellarmino) 2021-12-22T18:32:40+01:00 Adam Wielomski
The theological, ecclesiastical and political thought of Jesuit Counterreformation it’s a very
curios case against i.e. political theology formulated by Carl Schmitt. The specific of political
ideas of Counterreformation is the strange mixture between monarchical idea of God,
monarchical idea of pope and republican, pre-republican or constitutional royalty. The
aim of this article is the examination of this interesting case study. We have in this epoch
the confrontation between two political ideas: royal monarchy of sovereign state and papal
monarchy in the Church. In this same moment we se the growth of centralised modern
state as parallel growth of centralised Church. We se an evident parallel between the notions
of sovereignty in the state and infallibility and primacy in the Catholic Church. And the
believers in Church are in the same time the subjects in the state. We have classic clash
between two great forces in the same land. The situation is worsened by the Reformation and
abjuration from Catholicity by few rulers. In this case the papal monarchy prefer the ideas of
constitution, limited government, right to resist to the tyrants, i.e. schismatic or protestant
sovereigns. Jesuit statement against the political theology is the effect of understanding that
the theological and political power of pope is impossible in the world of sovereign states.
2021-12-22T00:00:00+01:00 Prawa autorskie (c) 2021 Adam Wielomski Instytucja monarchii w myśli polityczno‑filozoficznej Diega de Saavedry Fajardo 2021-12-22T18:42:05+01:00 Marcin Śrama
Abstract:
Diego de Saavedra Fajardo (1584–1648) was Spanish diplomat and political writer, author
of many works, for example: La república literaria, Corona gótica, castellana y austríaca (1648),
Introducción a la política y razón de Estado del rey católico don Fernando (1631) and Idea de
un príncipe político cristiano (1640, eng. „Idea of a Christian Political Prince”). These last
work is an important expression of the neo-stoicism and neo-thomism which flourished
in 17th-century Spain. The author also refers to the concept of a good reason of state and
creates an anti-Machiavellian vision of politics. Saavedra’s work is also worth attention due
to its form. The aim of this text is the complete revision of this popular view. The difference between unpersonal State and personal ruler is in his famous book La Ragion di stato (1589) posed only as theoretical question, because the intellectual fathers of Botero present traditional statement that the prince is the owner of state (Machiavelli) or the power has the origins in the power of father of family (Bodin). From the mixture of state and ruler, reason of State and reason of ruler is possible the identification of state and ruler as one being only. And it is the cause that in Botero we have only one possible political regime: royal monarchy. The people has not the right to revolt, to any form of resistance, and to change the regime of State. Botero is not the modern thinker as he is presented in the literature. He is the mixture between modern and traditional points of view.
2021-12-22T00:00:00+01:00 Prawa autorskie (c) 2021 Adam Wielomski Monarchia teokratyczna Stanisława Orzechowskiego 2021-12-22T18:59:26+01:00 Mateusz Gierszewski
The text contains a presentation and discussion of the views of Stanisław Orzechowski,
a Russian priest of the Roman rite, educated at Western universities and involved in political
disputes of the nobility under the rule of Sigismund Augustus. He was a writer who stood
out from the humanists of the age by his attachment to the Church. He became known as
a radical opponent of the Reformation, which he constantly fought against, but at the same
time defended the Eastern Churches against unification with Rome. His views led him to
formulate a theocratic doctrine of the state, in which the king bound by the coronation
oath became subordinate to the archbishop of Gniezno – the primate Polish. He was also
a singer of the freedom of the Kingdom of Poland, thanks to which it is the best earthly
state. His Sejm Sermons, as a political treatise, were an important voice concerning
the organization of society, the issue of the best system, religious tolerance. This treaty postulated the strengthening of the monarch’s power, the restoration of his judicial, legislative, stable
income for the kingdom. He enumerated the numerous mistakes of democracy, considered to
be the most harmful system, and criticized the tolerant Warsaw Confederation as a gateway
for non-believers and a threat to the unity of the country. He suggested the elimination of
national vices, such as private, lawlessness, disunion. He called for the improvement of the
lot of the peasants and included them in the same nation as the nobility.
2021-12-22T00:00:00+01:00 Prawa autorskie (c) 2021 Arkadiusz Bożejewicz Francisco de Quevedo. De Quevedo described his political thing in these letters in which he emphasized
the role of the ruler’s responsibility. De Quevedo dealt with the issue of admissibility of
resistance to power and tyrannicide when the king does not fulfill his duties. Shakespeare is critical of the “rule of the people”, which he denies political virtue,
while he appreciates aristocracy, but paternalistic and faithful to the sovereign. Kilka uwag o podstawach tradycjonalistycznej nostalgii za ancien régime’em 2021-12-22T19:30:34+01:00 Bartosz Chrząszcz
On February 26, 2021, 200 years have passed since the death of the most eminent representative of traditionalism, a reactionary doctrine arising out of opposition to the French
Revolution and requiring the defense of the ancien régime. The counter-revolution was
a complex concept rooted in ontology, theology, epistemology, and the philosophy of language. It provokes a reflection on the political, legal, social and religious order, also today
as a doctrine that was created in the modern era, but directed against it. The main research
goal is a thorough analysis of Joseph de Maistre’s attitude, determining his attitude to the
revolution and the vision of the state order, which will allow to illustrate the essence of
traditionalist thought expressing nostalgia for the old world scheme.
2021-12-22T00:00:00+01:00 Prawa autorskie (c) 2021 Bartosz Chrząszcz
