Abstrakt

Indonesia launched an aggression to East Timor at the end of 1970-s. For years, Indonesia has justified the aggression as an act to protect its interest. The papers tries to see if this justification is indeed a national interest or merely an individual interest that affects the national and foreign policy. Using neoclassical realism, this paper argues that a complex interaction between individual's ambitions and international support has pushed the aggression to full scale military operations in the 1970-s East Timor.
