A typology of changes in Poland’s population age structure between 2002 and 2022: A regional study

The study examines changes in the age structure of Poland’s population by economic age groups (pre-working, working and post-working age, defined in Research materials and methods) between 2002 and 2022, including the subperiods 2002–2012 and 2012–2022, to determine spatial patterns at the national, regional and local levels. Typologies of these changes are developed, and the spatial autocorrelation of the results is established. All analysed data were obtained from Statistics Poland.
The age structure of Poland’s population underwent significant and lasting changes in the period 2002–2022, with accelerated population ageing and altered spatial distribution of population age groups.
