Count Kajetan Sierakowski is one of the better known people in the history of Sopot. The holiday manor house he built, now known as the Dworek Sierakowskich, is the oldest fully preserved historic building in the city. Sierakowski’s activities in Sopot have, thus far, been described in an abbreviated form, and not without errors. In fact, the available archival material makes it possible to follow his work in greater detail and understand what enticed him to purchase a farm in Sopot in 1793. Of particular interest is the litigation against royal officials regarding the appointment of the village headship of Sopot in 1795–1796. The documents produced in the course of the case allow, among other things, to precisely date the construction of the Dworek Sierakowskich. At the same time, it is an interesting contribution to research on the workings of the domain administration in West Prussia in the late 18th century.
