Physical activity in gestational diabetes mellitus

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), affecting approximately 4 %– 7 % of all pregnancies. Hyperglycaemia is associated with high risk of fetal malformations, macrosomia or hypoglycaemia after delivery.  GDM have an increased risk for hypertension and pre-eclampsia during pregnancy. Maintain a healthy body weight, appropriate diet, regular physical activity are very important part of lifestyle management during pregnancy.  Physical exercise during pregnancy reduce the risk of GDM, preeclampsia or excessive gestational weight. Moreover improve insulin sensitivity, maintain fasting and postprandial normoglycemia.
