Peer Review Process

The procedure for reviewing texts applied in the journal Folia Toruniensia complies with the guidelines put forward by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, included in the “Good practice in academic review procedures” document of 2011.

1. The Editorial Team and Editorial Committee in charge of preparing the publication of each issue of the journal evaluate all the submitted texts. It allows a preliminary selection of the collected material, which is then returned to the author in order to include the corrections and remarks made by the Editorial Team. The Editorial Team use the anti-plagiarism service iThenticate.
2. Next, the Editorial Team and Editorial Committee choose two reviewers – specialists in Bibliology and Information Studies or History, who are independent of the Nicolaus Copernicus University and the Nicolaus Copernicus Public Provincial Library in Toruń.
3. If the text is written in a foreign language, at least one of the reviewers is affiliated to a foreign institution from a country other than the nationality of the author.
4. The authors and reviewers do not know each other’s identities – the so called “double-blind review process” – in order to avoid compromising the objectiveness of the review.
5. The publisher concludes agreements with reviewers which define the remuneration for writing reviews to ensure a high standard.
6. Reviews are made in written form and end in an unequivocal statement whether a given text can be accepted for print or should be rejected (Sheet of review)
7. For the text to be qualified for print two positive reviews are necessary. If the reviewers differ in opinion, the Editorial Committee decides whether the text is to be printed or rejected.
8. The authors are notified of the results of the review procedure.
9. The surnames of reviewers of individual issues of the journal are not disclosed. Once a year the journal makes the list of co-operating reviewers available to the public.
