The most significant characteristic of Franciscan mysticism is finding traces of God by contemplation on nature. We can find similar views on nonmaterial reality in Miciński's poetry.

Miciński does not follow the stereotypical representation of St. Francis but evokes his deep spiritual experiences and stigmatization. Those references are always related to images taken from nature. In Miciński's poems nature can lead to finding God. Yet it can also raise doubts and existential dread. However, the observation of the natural world always brings sense of transcendence hidden behind it.

While Franciscan themes are more noticeable in poems by Jan Kasprowicz or Leopold and Ludwik Maria Staff, it was not a one-time inspiration in Miciński's literary output. The author of Nietota especially emphasized the mysticism of St. Francis – that what in his spirituality was the deepest. Comparing to other artists of Young Poland who also reflected on Franciscan spirituality, Miciński's reception is unique. The thought of St. Francis strongly influenced his worldview and coexisted in with his other, often opposed influences.

ER -
