Abstract

Nils Christie has been a key figure for the Norwegian science of criminology, sociology and criminal law for over half a century. He was not only a great theoretician, but also his original ideas contributed to the introduction of real social and legal changes. He was extremely active in the public debate, and his thought was an impulse for action in many areas. His contribution to the development of the idea of restorative justice can not be overestimated, and his views are still alive and provoke discussion on the direction of development of contemporary legal systems.
