Shakespeare is critical of the “rule of the people”, which he denies political virtue, <br>while he appreciates aristocracy, but paternalistic and faithful to the sovereign. He does not <br>question the legitimacy of the republican system where it is a “long-standing” order, but <br>combines his political ideal with a national, legitimistic, law-abiding and Christian monarchy.</p> ER -
